Senior Health Care Options

Senior Health Care Options in Illinois

If you’re approaching the age of 65, now is the perfect time to start thinking about the different senior health care options that are available to you. Planning ahead will prevent any kind of lapse in coverage, allowing you to continue with any preventive healthcare or treatments that you’re receiving. Being proactive about your health can ensure that you live a long and healthy life, which is why we want to provide you with information on your health care options.

Medicaid

If you’re an Illinois resident that meets certain eligibility requirements, you may be able to sign up for Medicaid. This state-run program is typically provided to people based on their immigration status and income limits. You don’t have to pay anything to apply for Medicaid coverage, so it’s beneficial to submit your information and see if you’re approved. Medicaid coverage will include things like annual physicals, sick visits with your doctor, telehealth care (if your doctor offers it), blood tests, surgical coverage, and much more.

Medicare

Seniors who are over the age of 65 are eligible for Medicare coverage. This is a federally run health insurance program that includes people with disabilities. There are different types of Medicare coverage, including parts A, B, C, and D. Part A refers to hospital coverage that you would utilize in the case of an emergency. Part B provides typical medical coverage, like routine appointments with your doctor. Part C refers to Medicare Advantage coverage, and Part D covers the cost of any prescription medications that you need.

Traditional Health Care Coverage

If you’re not eligible for Medicaid, you may need to budget for health care coverage. There are several different policy options that you can choose from, each providing different coverage and services. For example, if you’re dealing with an ongoing health condition that you know needs to be periodically assessed by a medical practitioner, you’ll want to make sure you have a low deductible and excellent coverage for regular visits and specialist care. Other people prefer a very high-deductible plan if they don’t see a doctor often. Though, as we age, we always find that it’s a good idea to ensure you have adequate coverage. You never know when something will come up.

Other Add-On Considerations

In addition to your traditional health care coverage, there are separate considerations that you may want to include. This includes things like vision insurance coverage. These policies usually provide you with a yearly eye exam and then coverage for lenses and frames. Contacts may be covered as well. If you’ve been using corrective lenses all your life, this is coverage worth considering. Also, many seniors develop eye issues such as cataracts, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Having ample coverage allows you to see the best doctors and have treatments performed.

Dental coverage is also something that is worth adding to your health care policy. As our bodies age, so do our teeth. You may need more frequent fillings, extractions, or reconstructive work as you approach your senior years. You don’t want to exhaust your budget due to not having dental coverage.
